Difference between Ac and DC | Alternating Current & Direct Current |Distinguish|

Difference between Ac and DC

In this post i am sharing with you about for main Difference between Ac and DC  Alternating Current and Direct current . In a close circuit , an electric current is the flow of free electrons . These are two kinds of electric current

Difference between Ac and DC

1. Direct Current (DC):

A  Direct Current has the following characteristics:
1.It flows in one direction only
2.It flows always from +ve terminal to -ve terminal of supply
3.It nay or may not have constant value and thus direct current may be :
  (a) Steady D.C.
  (b)Pulsating D.C.

Q . What is steady D.C. ( Direct. Current ).

Answer ➨ A direct current which has constant magnitude is called Steady D.C.

Q. What is Pulsating D.C. (Direct Current ).

Answer ➨ A Direct Current which changes the magnitude with the passage of time but flow in same direction is known as Pulsating D.C.

2. Alternating Current (A.C.)

An alternating current has the following characteristic :

1.It changes its direction regularly
2.It is also change it's magnitude with time

A.C. is supplied by  A.C.  Generators , and oscillators.

10 difference between A.C. and D.C.

Alternating Current  (AC)Direct Current (DC)
1. Alternating Current changes it's direction regularly                                                    1.Direct Current flow in One Direction Only
2.The Magnitude of D.C Varies with Time 2.The Magnitude of A.C. does not  Varies with
Time
3. Alternating Voltage can be stepped up or
 stepped down easily
3.D.C. Supply can't be step up or step down easily
4.A.C. Power can be easily transmitted from one place to another place4.D.C. Power at high voltage can not be  easily transmitted from one place to another
5.In India frequency of A.C. is 50 HZ.5.Frequency of D.C. is Zero
6.Skin effect occur in A.C. System.
Hence Conductor resistance is increased
6.In D.C. System there is no skin effect occurs
7.A.C. Power  can be generated at high Voltage. i.e. 11 K.V. &  33 K.V7.D.C. Power can not be generated at high Voltage
 (Due to commutation problem )
8.In A.C. System voltage drop is comparatively8.In D.C. System comparatively less voltage drop because in d.c. there is no effect of Inductive
9.In A.C. System at high voltage corona loss is large 9.In D.C. system ,at high voltage corona loss is small

In India supply frequency is 50 Hz and voltage is 230 V for single phase supply , 440 volts for 3 phase supply

in some countries like China, Japan, United State of America, the frequency of A.C. is  60 HZ.  and supply voltage is 110 volt instead of 110v/230v.

Advantages of A.C over D.C. | Alternating Current & Direct Current |

Advantages of A.C over D.C. list of few advantages of A.C. supply over D.C. Supply are :These are the some following major advantages of Alternating current over direct current Advantages of A.C over D.C 1. A  supply voltage can be raised or lowered by using transformer in A.C. as per requirement. It is not easy to do in the case of D.C. Supply. 2. For a given size of machine , the power generated in three phase alternator is three times the power generated in d.c. generator .Smaller size of machine make it cheaper  3. Generation of power at high voltage is easier in the case of a.c. than the case of d.c. generation. It is because of commutation problem in d.c. generation 4. For transmission of a given amount of power over a given distance at a given voltage , the conductor material required in the case of three phase a.c. system is less than conductor material  required in two wire d.c. system 5.In case of 3 phase , 4 wire system two different voltages 230
