Difference Between High and Low Voltage Distribution System
Difference Between High and Low Voltage Distribution System . The system by which power is distributed from sub-station/control station to consumers is known as distribution system. Distribution can be done either at high voltage or low voltage :
Classification of Distribution Box
Disribution system is also divided into :
1.Primary Distribution :  Primary distribution system is a system in which electric power is delivered from sub-station to Bulk consumers at 33 KV /11 KV either by overhead or underground system.
2.Secondary Distribution : secondary distributin system is  a system by which electric power is delivered from small sub-station to domestic consumers at 400 v / 230 volts.
Comparison between primary/high voltage distribution system and secondary/low voltage distribution system.
| High Voltage Distribution System | Low Voltage Distribution System |
| 1. These are used for primary distribution  of power |
1. These are used for secondary distribution of power |
| 2. They carry voltage of the order of 33 kv or 11 kv |
2. They carry voltage of the order of400/230 volts |
| 3. For high voltage distribution 3-phase 3-wire system are used | 3. For low voltages distributin 3 phase 4 wire system are used . |
| 4.Fir large cities with heavy industrial consumers , the load requirement is large so , HV distribution system is preferred |
4.For small towns with small industries and domestic consumers , the load requirement |
